  1. Communication satellites relay radio waves, like TV transmissions or military communications.
    Observation satellites take pictures, like weather satellites or spy satellites.
    Global Positioning satellites send out precise time signals that a GPS receiver listening to several satellites at the same time can use to calculate its own position.
